SCF Post-Hurricane Milton Updates


October 15, 2024 Update: SCF and SCFCS Bradenton Campuses to Open Oct. 21; SCFCS Venice to Open Oct. 16.

Thanks to the combined efforts of our College community and emergency response teams, SCF will open all three campuses, including our Bradenton Collegiate School and resume regular operations, including classes, appointments and events effective Monday, October 21, 2024.  SCFCS Venice will return to campus Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

We will continue our virtual classes, operations and limited on-campus services through Friday, October 18 as previously published and listed below.  However, the College campuses will remain closed through Sunday, October 20, 2024, and all scheduled events or activities for Oct. 19 and 20 are cancelled.

Due to storm impacts, the facilities below are currently closed until further notice. Events or activities scheduled at these locations will be rescheduled or relocated with notice or cancelled.

We recognize that some members of our College community are still experiencing hardships from Hurricane Milton, and the personal safety of students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. Any student, faculty, or staff unable to attend class or report to work should notify their instructor or supervisor as soon as possible, and we will review your options.

October 13, 2024 Update and Operations Oct. 14 – 18

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

Together, we continue to navigate our recovery from Hurricane Milton. As many of us continue to have no power, lack of internet, intermittent cellular service, the SCF College community is exercising maximum flexibility to help our community recuperate and get back on schedule.

SCF will operate virtually for the week of Oct. 14 – Oct. 18. However, any student, faculty, or staff unable to attend class or report to work should notify their instructor or supervisor as soon as possible.  The personal safety of students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. Any student, faculty, or staff member with no power and/or Internet access will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

SCF Faculty & Staff

SCF faculty and staff, who are able, should report virtually Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18.

SCF Classes & Campuses

SCF will resume all classes virtually Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18. This includes face-to-face classes and the 8, now 7-week flex term. Students should check Canvas for instructions and further information from their professors. For students who need access to the Internet or a computer, please contact SCF Libraries by text at 941-270-9643 or call 941-408-1435 for SCF Venice or 941-363-7250 for SCF Lakewood Ranch or visit SCF.edu/Library.  

The SCF Bradenton campus will remain closed Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18. All onsite activities including any appointments, advising, sports, music and theatre productions are cancelled. A decision regarding Saturday and Sunday events will be announced by 2 p.m. Friday, October 18.

From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18, SCF Venice Buildings 100, 300, 400 and 500, and the CIT and MTSC building at SCF Lakewood Ranch will be open for select services, including Wi-Fi, electricity and limited indoor accommodations.

SCF Collegiate Schools

SCFCS Bradenton will resume classes virtually Tuesday, October 15 through Friday, October 18 for grades 6-10. Dual enrolled students will also resume classes virtually with the SCF academic reopening plan. Students should check Canvas for instructions and further information from their teachers and professors. For students who do not have access to the Internet, please contact Head of School, Karen Lewellen via email LewellK@SCF.edu or call 941-752-5491.

SCFCS Venice will resume classes on campus with the Sarasota County School district calendar for grade 9-10. It is currently scheduled to open Tuesday, October 15 through Thursday, October 17. Friday, October 18 is a Record Day for teachers, so there is no school for students. Dual enrolled students will resume classes virtually with the SCF academic reopening plan. Students should check Canvas for instructions and further information from their teachers and professors. SCF Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development

SCF’s Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development Classes will proceed as scheduled from SCF’s Lakewood Ranch campus or offsite, as confirmed per course.  If cancelled, attendees will receive notice. For questions or information, please email LifelongLearning@SCF.edu or Workforce@SCF.edu.

SCF Traffic Safety Institute

The Traffic Safety Institute (TSI) at SCF Bradenton will remain closed through Friday, October 18 and staff will reach out to reschedule evaluation appointments and as classes are rescheduled. If you need to register for DUI school or any other classes, you may report to our TSI Sarasota office beginning Tuesday, October 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For questions or information, please call 941-487-7400 or email ChiaraW@SCF.edu.

Services and Resources

Note additional in-person services, such as SCF’s Food Pantry and College and Career Coaching Services, will be available from SCF Venice. Virtual appointments can also be set up online at http://www.scf.edu/tasc or students may email CollegeAndCareerSuccess@SCF.edu or call 941-752-5035.

SCF Venice Academic Resource Center, Building 400 will be open for students. Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

SCF’s Bookstore will be open at SCF Venice only, Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18 from 9a.m. to 3p.m. Students in Bradenton or Lakewood Ranch may contact SCFBradenton@bkstr.com or order online at SCFBradentonShop.com, and books will be couriered to SCF Lakewood Ranch for pick-up.

SCF Libraries

The libraries at SCF Venice and Lakewood Ranch will be open with staff to provide services.

Currently, no food services are available on either SCF Venice or Lakewood Ranch campuses.

Students, faculty, and staff should monitor all communications channels, including the College’s emergency alert system through email, telephone, text and SCF.edu for updates. Links to post-storm resources are also available online.
