SCF Hosts Manatee County Honor Choir

(Bradenton, Fla., April 2, 2025) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota hosted the Manatee County Honor Choir Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at SCF Bradenton. SCF Music Department Chair Melodie Dickerson led the event, which brought together 275 students from 10 high schools and eight middle schools for rehearsals and a final concert.

Students trained under renowned clinician-conductors Dr. Jeffery Redding (University of Central Florida), Mr. Brian Nesmith (East Bay High School), and Ms. Maya Berrios (Seminole High School) before performing. The event concluded with a public concert in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center, where the SCF Chamber Choir opened the evening with a moving rendition of the National Anthem. The concert was attended by parents, friends, and educators, celebrating the dedication and talent of these young musicians.

Additionally, over 25 SCF music students volunteered their time to assist with set-up and event logistics, ensuring a smooth and successful experience for all participants.
