SCF to Showcase Newly Renovated Dental Hygiene Clinic
Bradenton, Fla. Mar. 7, 2023
(Bradenton, Fla., March 7, 2023) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a grand reopening celebration for its newly renovated dental hygiene clinic 3-7 p.m. Monday, March 13, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The clinic is located in Building 2, on the east side of the campus facing 26th St. W. Faculty and staff from SCF’s dental hygiene program will provide tours and answer questions about the clinic and the services it provides.
The $1.2 million renovation included the addition of three new stations, raising the number of dental units to 16. Dental services provided in the clinic are an affordable option for individuals without dental insurance or who are on fixed incomes. Prices range from $15 to $50 for services such as teeth cleaning, full mouth x-rays, oral cancer screenings, non-surgical periodontal therapy, sealants and fluoride treatments.
SCF’s dental hygiene program has existed for nearly 25 years and primarily serves residents of Manatee and Sarasota counties. Students who graduate with an Associate in Science in dental hygiene routinely pass the state and national certification exams to become a dental hygienist on their first attempt. Faculty in the dental hygiene program at SCF are experienced professionals, some of whom are SCF alumni themselves.
Interest in admission to the program remains high, with more than 100 applicants annually. The growth of the region’s population has led to many new and expanding dental practices in need of hygienists, making the program an important workforce training asset for the community. Hands-on experience working in the clinic is an important part of the thorough training and successful outcomes SCF’s dental hygiene students enjoy.
