Flexible Start Dates and Variable Terms Provide Convenience for SCF Students
Bradenton, Fla. Jan. 5, 2023
(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 5, 2023) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is offering nearly 400 Flex Start classes for the Spring 2023 semester, allowing students who missed traditional spring registration or need to add a class a second chance to enroll. These accelerated classes offer the same course material and credits as traditional 16-week classes over shorter timeframes of 12, eight or five weeks. Available start dates are Jan. 9, Feb. 6 and 13, and March 13 and 27.
Work and family commitments pose challenges for many people considering a college degree. Flexible start dates are one of the ways SCF helps make college accessible for students whose circumstances may have kept them from enrolling for a full term. Some students complete multiple classes each semester on accelerated timelines to avoid having too many classes at once. Another opportunity for students is to pick up a Flex Start class when timing is more convenient than it may have been when the semester first started.
Flex Start classes are available at SCF campuses in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and Venice, as well as online in self-paced or live video-conference formats. The courses are offered at multiple times, including evenings and weekends, to allow students the opportunity to learn whenever their schedule allows. Students can earn credits applicable to SCF’s associate in arts and associate in science degrees, workforce certificates and bachelor’s degrees. Financial aid is also available through grants, scholarships, payment plans, federal work study and loans.
