SCF Guitar Ensemble Presents “Swamp Fever”

Bradenton, Fla. Mar. 10, 2022

(Bradenton, Fla., March 10, 2022) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Guitar Ensemble will perform original music infused with the charm of Florida at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the SCF Studio for the Performing Arts Recital Hall, 5840 26th St. W., Building 11A. General admission tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at SCF.edu/Neel, while tickets for students and staff are $5 at the door.

The concert will consist entirely of newly commissioned compositions from three professional composers, Roger Hudson, Jon Godfrey and Rex Willis, and Jacob Wicks, an advanced sophomore student composer at SCF. Hudson teaches multiple-styles guitar at Manatee School for the Arts. Willis, head of Guitar and Composition studies at SCF, teaches classical-style guitar, and Godfrey, also an SCF instructor, specializes in jazz guitar studies. Both teach Music Theory and Music Appreciation.

Titles of the never-before-performed compositions include “Old Florida,” Spanish Moss,” “Alligator Waltz,” “7 Miles,” “August Rain,” “Creepy Crawley Things,” and “Florida Man.”

Several of the pieces will be played during the showing of short films depicting Florida, the musical performance becoming a live soundtrack to the scenic videos.

The Guitar Ensemble, directed by Willis, will be joined by alumni acoustic and classical guitarists to form an ensemble of 15 guitars and create a unique orchestral sound. A question-and-answer session with the composers and the ensemble will take place following the show.
