Street Art 101
November 27, 2018 - 3-4pm in The Gallery at SCF
"Street Cred" is accompanied by "Street Art 101" : a lecture that focuses on the history of street art, the evolution of street mediums and the process of creating sometimes ephemeral and performance-based installations. The lecture will be given by guest curator Diana Bryson. Bryson is currently working as the studio manager for muralists The Vitale Brothers, and with the Shine mural festival in St. Petersburg. Bryson has been immersed in the Street Art scene for several years and is interested in studying and carefully documenting the growth of the movement as it swells in popularity and reach. Through the years Bryson noticed that while the murals in St. Pete inspire mostly beloved admiration among the diverse group that views them, there is very little credible information available to those who want to know more after their encounters with the works on where they exist, in various public spaces.
Don't miss this - please join us as Bryson shares her unique insight and perspective inside the current exhibition, which promises to be a rare behind-the-scenes look into contemporary practice.
Street Cred
November 13, 2018 - January 3, 2019
The Gallery will host a reception from 4-6 p.m. on November 13 for "Street Cred," a group exhibition guest curated by Diana Bryson.
"Street Cred" is an exhibition showcasing the work of artists actively participating in the Street Art movement. Pulling work from a regional level, with a smattering of nationally recognized names, this exhibition aims to highlight a well-rounded perspective of living artists making history on and off the streets. The variety of mediums, artistic backgrounds, intent of the artists, gestural qualities of the mediums and newly found aesthetics of Street Art make it one of the most complex global cultural movements to date. Exhibiting this art, encapsulating a snapshot of the “now” in a formal setting helps to elevate the status of this broad range of expression in hopes to draw attention to the importance of the phenomenon while situating the multi-faceted aims and products of the work into a historic context
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. There will be an curator's tour of the exhibition on November 27, 2018, from 3-4pm. Group tours are available by appointment. For more information, contact Katherine Bzura, Gallery Director, at 941-752-5225 or BzuraK@SCF.edu.
