About the Disability Resource Center
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is committed to ensuring equal access to college programs, services, and activities for qualified students with disabilities. The DRC assists students with disabilities through the provision of reasonable accommodations, information, resources, services, and skill development. The DRC promotes student self-advocacy through collaboration with faculty, staff, and SCF campus resources.
- Accessibility and Inclusivity: The DRC aims to create an inclusive and accessible environment for individuals with disabilities. This involves ensuring that all aspects of the educational institution or workplace are physically and digitally accessible.
- Equal Opportunity: The DRC works to provide individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from all programs, activities, and services. This is in alignment with legal requirements such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Accommodations: The DRC assists individuals with disabilities in obtaining reasonable accommodations. These accommodations can include modifications to the physical environment, specialized technology, extended testing time, note-taking assistance, and more, depending on the needs of the individual.
- Advocacy: The DRC often serve as advocates for individuals with disabilities. They work with educational institutions or employers to ensure that the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities are recognized and respected.
- Educational Support: In an educational setting, The DRC may provide tutoring, academic coaching, and other support services to help students with disabilities succeed academically.
- Awareness and Education: The DRC often plays a role in raising awareness about disabilities and promoting a more inclusive and understanding community. This can involve training for faculty, staff, and students about disability-related issues.
- Resource Referral: The DRC typically has a wealth of information and resources related to disabilities. They can provide referrals to other support services, community organizations, and resources that can further assist individuals with disabilities.
Get Started: Apply for Accommodations
Step One: Apply
Complete the DRC New Student Application. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email.
Step Two: Provide Documentation
Review the Documentation Guidelines/Verification Form for information on acceptable documentation. Documentation can be uploaded with the application, through the link provided in the confirmation email, or dropped off/emailed to DRC offices.
Step Three: Attend Intake
Once your documentation is reviewed you will be contacted by DRC staff. If documentation is sufficient, we will schedule you for an Intake meeting to develop a plan for academic accommodations once you have completed the SCF admissions process.
Step Four: Complete Information Session
Following the Intake meeting, you will complete an Information Session to electronically sign agreements and request accommodations for each course. You will learn the how to utilize each approved accommodation and the importance of self-advocacy.
SCF is committed to the spirit and the letter of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the ADA Amendment Act (ADAAA), and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. SCF has instituted various administrative policies, procedures, and practices to provide meaningful access for individuals with disabilities.
