Withdrawal from the College and Financial Aid Impact
Federal Title IV Financial Aid Refund Policy requires colleges to calculate how much
federal aid a student has earned if they withdraw or stop attending (unofficial withdraw)
courses prior to the end of a semester. If the date of an official last documented
date of attendance or academic-related activity is not greater than 60% of the semester,
a calculation will be performed to determine how much financial aid has been "earned"
up to the date of withdrawal. Students may have to return a portion of the aid received,
as well as owe the College a portion of the tuition and fees.
Financial aid funds are returned in the following order:
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
Direct Subsidized Stafford Loans
Direct PLUS Loans
Federal Pell Grant
Federal SEOG
State and Institutional funding may require similar treatment. All funds that were
disbursed in excess of the amount "earned" must be repaid.
