Applying for Federal Direct Loans

How to Apply

  1. The first step in applying for any financial aid at SCF, including loans, is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  2. Complete Online Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov*
    1. You will be required to enter your FSA ID
    2. Choose "Complete Entrance Counseling"
    3. Complete tutorial session and review portions
    4. Click on SUBMIT
    5. We recommend printing a copy of the confirmation page for your records.
  3. Complete your Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov*
    1. You will be required to enter your FSA ID
    2. Choose "Complete Master Promissory Note"
    3. Complete all information requested
    4. Click on SUBMIT
    5. We recommend printing a copy of the confirmation page for your records.

 

Students have the right to cancel all or a portion of their student loan(s). If you wish to do so, you must contact our office in writing within 14 days of this notification (A copy of your request must be sent to both the Cashier's Office and the Office of Financial Aid Services).

* Information for First-time Direct Loan Borrowers

If you are a first-time borrower at SCF, you will be required to:

  1. Complete Online Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
  2. Complete your Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)

These steps must be completed before you can receive your first loan disbursement.

First-time, first-year Direct Stafford borrowers will not receive their first loan disbursement until 30 calendar days after the first day of classes, according to federal regulations.

For Students taking late starting classes - disbursements of your student loans will occur once you begin attending at half-time status which is 6 credits.
