Accuplacer ESL
What is this? The Accuplacer ESL test is the test of English proficiency for non-native speakers of English. The test is used to guide students to the correct English course for college success. The test has two sections, reading skills and language use.
Do I need this test? If English is not the language you speak best or write best, you should take the Accuplacer ESL test instead of the PERT.
Why don’t I just take the PERT? The Accuplacer ESL test is designed so students who do not speak and write English as a primary language can be placed correctly in their English course. Taking the right English course is important to your early success at SCF. In contrast, the PERT is designed for native English speakers. If you take the wrong test, you may be placed in the wrong class which could impact your college success.
What about math? The Accuplacer ESL test does not have a math section, so students who take the Accuplacer ESL will take the math section of the PERT on a different day of their choice.
What score do I need to pass the Accuplacer ESL? The Accuplacer ESL test is not pass/fail. The test looks at your skill level so you register for the correct English course. Scores range from 0-120. Students who score 114 on both sections of the test will be invited to take the PERT test and may be placed in the appropriate courses according to PERT results.
How much time does it take? You should expect to spend around 1.5-2 hours taking this test.
Where do I take the Accuplacer ESL test? At the Assessment and Testing Center on your campus of choice. Make an appointment in person or online.
