SCF Music Students Shine, Winning Competitions, Awards and Internships

(Bradenton, Fla., June 16, 2022) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) music students won numerous competitions, received recognition and awards, and were selected for internships this spring and summer.
- Maria Medina won the Student Artist Competition from the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) in the piano division. She will receive a $2,000 scholarship upon transferring to a Florida four-year university. Nick Kovalev, violin, also earned an honorable mention in the FCSAA competition in the strings division.
- Katelyn Reinschmidt, soprano, and Jacob Wicks, classical guitar, each received a $500 scholarship from the Bay Chorale and performed solos during the Chorale’s April concert.
- Mia Freeman, alto, won first place at the Tampa Bay National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition in the musical theatre, lower division college category. Lylyana Brych, soprano, won second place in the classical, upper division college category.
- Trombonists Andrew Muzquiz and Braden Hameed earned the opportunity to perform with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps this summer.
- Mia Freeman, alto, served as an intern with the Sarasota Youth Opera during the spring semester.
- Yadira Gonzalez, euphonium, was selected for a summer intern position through the American for the Arts Diversity in Arts Leadership program. She will be completing a 10-week internship with the Manatee Performing Arts Center this summer.
