Radiography Program Admission Information and Requirements
Admission Requirements:
In addition to the admission requirements for college, the following are requirements for admission to the Radiography Program:
1. Earned grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better in ALL general education courses required by the program toward the degree and a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 to meet graduation requirements.
2. Satisfactory completion of any remedial course work needed to be eligible for college-level courses.
NOTE: Prerequisite courses may be required for ENC 1101 and the required Math course. These prerequisite courses MUST be taken PRIOR to entry into RTE 1002 to be eligible to take the required courses. Consult the course descriptions in the online Catalog or the specific department of the College for additional information.
3. Progam prerequisite courses MUST be completed with the following grades by the end of the Fall term prior to the year in which the applicant is applying.
BSC 2085 Anatomy & Physiology I Lecture & BSC 2085L Anatomy & Physiology I Lab (Requirement: BSC 2085 course requires a grade of B or better)
MATH: Any Area II Math course for the A.S. degree (Grade of C or better)
4. A minimum grade of “C” is required for all courses applied towards the Radiography degree, with the exception of Anatomy and Physiology I.
5. Verification of attendance at a Radiography Program Virtual Information Session which can be accessed at the Radiography homepage: SCF.edu/Radiography.
6. A completed application for the Radiography Program and the nonrefundable program application fee of $35. The application fee is per program and valid for three calendar years (Jan. - Dec.). Applications submitted after December 31 of the third calendar year will require another $35 application fee. (A separate application is required for admission to the College).
Students are admitted to the Radiography program ONCE a year with classes beginning in the Summer term. This is a limited enrollment program. The Radiography Program consists of both classroom and clinical experience. Completion of all or part of the general academic courses required of the degree does not guarantee acceptance into the program. However, priority is given to applicants who have completed all prerequisite courses and who have completed the most required hours of coursework toward the degree by the end of the Fall term preceding the year for which the applicant is applying. If there are more qualified applicants than seats available in the program, the primary criteria for selection will be the GPA of the general education courses required by the program. The secondary selection criteria will be the overall college GPA. Applications are usually taken in January (please check the Radiography Program "Announcement" section for details and updates) and the admission decision communicated to the student via their SCF student e-mail account. Students not accepted may reapply for Radiography admission the following year.
Upon acceptance, the following are required:
1. A statement of satisfactory physical and mental health from a licensed physician or nurse practitioner. (Form to be provided.)
2. Once accepted (not prior to acceptance), the following are required: background checks; fingerprinting; CPR certification; appropriate vaccinations; health and drug screenings to meet local health care agency regulations. Based on the results of these checks and screenings, students may become ineligible for program admission. Continuation in the program is based on acceptable results from random/ongoing screenings and background checks. Ongoing screenings may occur as frequently as each semester, based on the policies of the program's clinical affiliates. Clinical facilities may limit or prohibit students with positive drug screen results or criminal histories from participating in clinical experiences, thus making the student ineligible to continue the program. Students are responsible for all fees incurred with these checks and screenings.
3. Successful completion of the Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider course offered through the American Heart Association.
4. Mandatory attendance at the program orientation.
Additional information regarding required background checks:
Any student who is arrested while in one of the Health Profession Programs, must within 5 working days, regardless of initial adjudication, notify the Provost/Dean of Nursing and Health Professions and submit to a second background check. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the program.
Any Student who has been found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to, any offense under the provisions of Florida Statutes, or under similar statute of another jurisdiction will need Exemption from Disqualification. If an exemption is not allowed by any one of the clinical agencies, the student will be unable to complete the requirements for the health professions program and will not be allowed to progress in the program.
