Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education
Program Description
Support Your Community and Become a Local Elementary School Teacher
SCF faculty and staff strive to provide a quality educational experience for future educators and students, particularly in our region. With our new Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program, we will be able to fulfill the unmet need for fully licensed K-6 teachers who are prepared to teach in a private or public school and possess endorsements in Reading (K-12) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL, K-12).
According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO), in Manatee and Sarasota counties, elementary teachers are ranked 36 on the list of occupations gaining new jobs. In fact, 1,661 job openings are predicted, anticipating a local increase of 12.8% in jobs between 2020 and 2028 statewide.
What you’ll learn
The program curriculum will prepare you to teach core elementary education subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, social sciences, and natural science. In addition, you’ll learn about child and adolescent development, study classroom management, and hone your communication skills. Your final two courses will be elementary education and reading internships, to provide you with the clinical hours needed to enter the field.
