SCF Faculty Holds Math ACES Competition for High School Math Students

(Bradenton, Fla., May 23, 2023) — Seniors from public and private high schools across Manatee and Sarasota counties faced off this spring in the annual Math ACES competition organized by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF). The contest was first created at SCF Venice in 1996 to encourage and reward math excellence. Like years past, SCF’s mathematics department faculty members created, administered and graded exam questions in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, statistics and probability.
Winners from each participating school in Manatee County were: Gregory Dina, State College of Florida Collegiate School – Bradenton; Weston Weintraub, Bayshore High School; Dylan Jackson, Braden River High School; Josh Seagreaves, Bradenton Christian School; Joshua Holler, Lakewood Ranch High School; Ravi Yarlagadda, Manatee High School; Luke Pfahler, Out-of-Door Academy; Anthony Gendreau, Palmetto High School; Elaina Bayard, Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School; and Andrew Krywko, Southeast High School.
Winners from each participating school in Sarasota County were: Maija Boelkins, Booker High School; Sherif Abdou, Riverview High School; Brayden Spain, North Port High School; Rushi Jivani, Pineview School; Joshua De Crapio, Sarasota High School; Ta Nguyen, Sarasota Military Academy; Layth Ghnaim, Suncoast Polytechnical High School; and Noah Whelden, Venice High School.
The top scorer from each of the 18 participating high schools receives a $125 cash award and a certificate of recognition at their senior awards ceremony.
The name Math ACES comes from the event’s original sponsor, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The 2023 sponsors were the ASCE, Hyatt Survey Services Inc. and Marsabel Engineering.
