SCF Faculty Conducts 2024 Math ACES Competition for High School Seniors

(Bradenton, Fla., June 19, 2024) Seniors from 18 public and private high schools across Manatee and Sarasota counties participated this spring in the 2024 Math ACES competition organized by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF). SCF mathematics department faculty members developed, administered and graded exam questions in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, statistics and probability.

Manatee County winners were Damen Dodds, Bayshore High School; Kayla Foroughi, Braden River High School; Piyawat Boonyasiriwat, Bradenton Christian School; Logan Catlett, Lakewood Ranch High School; Andrew Barsoum, Manatee High School; Amy Kwakye-Amoah, Out-of-Door Academy; Ryan Gomes, Palmetto High School; Julia Villaveces, Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School; Tucker Hickman, Southeast High School; and Matthew Jaskiewicz, Parrish Community High School.

Sarasota County winners were Chloe Johnson, Booker High School; Franco Fuentes-Sachetti, Riverview High School; Bryanna Stults, North Port High School; Adriana Maiotti, Pineview School; Ian Durichen, Sarasota High School; Matthew Brooker, Sarasota Military Academy; Michel Simon, Suncoast Polytechnical High School; and Sophia Teijelo, Venice High School.

Top scorers received a $150 cash award and a certificate of recognition at their senior awards ceremonies.

The Math ACES competition started in 1996 at SCF Venice to encourage and reward math excellence. The name Math ACES comes from the event’s original sponsor, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). This year’s sponsors were ASCE, State College of Florida Foundation, Hyatt Survey Services Inc., Marsabel Engineering and Florida Engineering Society Myakka Chapter.
