State Music Symposium Student Solo Artist Winners Awarded Scholarship Prizes

(Bradenton, Fla., June 5, 2024) Four State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) music program students won scholarship awards and invitations to perform at the solo artist recital at the Florida College System Activities Association Music Symposium earlier this year. Thirty-two SCF music students participated in the three-day event featuring more than 200 music students from 14 colleges displaying their musical skills in orchestra, symphonic band, choir, jazz band and guitar ensemble.

University conductors, faculty and staff directed and accompanied students in seating placements, rehearsals, performances, masterclasses, workshops and concerts. Seven SCF students were selected for the solo artist competition, including the following four scholarship winners:

  • Gavin Barker, Percussion, student of Aaron Nix.
  • Caitlyn Healey, Soprano, student of Melodie Dickerson.
  • Ashley Callari, Viola, student of Dr. YooBin Lee.
  • Tanner Stephens, Jazz Bass, student of Dr. Geoff Neuman.
