When Do I Apply?

Apply after you have registered for your last semester. You are not required to wait until the end of your last semester to apply. All summer graduates are invited to participate in the winter ceremony in December, since there is not a summer commencement ceremony.

Priority Deadline - When you submit your application on or before the published semester priority deadline, you are guaranteed the following perks: 1. your name printed in the Commencement Ceremony program, 2. Outstanding Graduate Award (OGA) consideration, and 3. the maximum number of Commencement Ceremony guest tickets with a successful online RSVP by the deadline 

Hard/Final Deadline - In order to apply for the semester you're graduating in, you must submit your application by the published semester hard deadline. Applications received after this date will be considered for the next available graduation application cycle.  

 How Do I Apply to Earn My Degree or Certificate? 

  1. Complete the online graduation application. Once, you complete the application, a $20 charge will be applied to your account which may be paid to cashiering within 24 hours after you submit your application. Reapplications and certificates will not be charged this fee.
  2. This graduation survey is currently offline due to an upgrade. This will not interfere with the graduation process. Please submit all paperwork at this time and do not wait for the survey. We will email you a link later to complete at your convenience.
  3. If you are planning on participating in the commencement ceremony, please complete the "Commencement Checklist" below. 

Winter 2018 Graduation Ceremony Information

Thursday, December 13, 2018 | 7:00 p.m. | Bradenton Convention Center

  • Ceremony Location: Bradenton Convention Center 1 Haben Boulevard, Palmetto, FL 34221
  • Please leave enough time for travel and traffic congestion to ensure an on-time arrival. 
  • US 301 and State Road 64 are the best exit options off of 1-75 to the Convention Center.
  • All graduates must arrive by 5:30 p.m.
  • The following items are not permitted in the hall: food/drink, strollers, air horns, beach balls, and similar items.

Commencement Checklist 

  1. You must RSVP to the commencement ceremony by the posted deadline.  
  2. If you are related to a current SCF employee, please let us know here
  3. Graduates are required to wear the designated regalia (cap, gown, and tassel). Regalia will also be available for purchase in the SCF Store (approximately two weeks prior to graduation). Please call 941-752-5080 with questions.

Disability Resource Center for Graduates and Guests

Graduates with special needs will be accommodated. Please contact the Disability Resource Center at least two weeks in advance of the ceremony at (941) 752-5295 or drc@scf.edu. All graduation ceremonies will have an American Sign Language interpreter in attendance. There is no pre-assigned seating for guests with disabilities. However, limited wheelchair seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests should arrive by 6:00 p.m.

Veterans

If you are a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces and you are planning to participate in the graduation ceremony, SCF would like to honor your service with patriotic cords to be worn as part of your official graduation regalia. Please contact Veteran Services  to confirm your intent to participate in the ceremony. 

Phi Theta Kappa and Honors 

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members may visit the PTK website to purchase an optional honor cord, stole, and tassel. There is no added regalia for honors.

Diploma Mailings

After the College has certified the degrees and certificates, diplomas and certificates will be mailed to the address listed on your application for graduation. Please allow up to eight weeks for certification and shipping.


FAQ | Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to apply for graduation if I will not be walking in the ceremony? 

  • A: Yes. You must successfully submit all steps of the graduation application to be considered for a degree or certificate. 

Q: Are the graduation application and ceremony attendance RSVP the same thing?

  • A: No. If you plan on participating the graduation ceremony as a graduate, you must submit a graduation application and the RSVP.

Q: Since I did not meet my degree/certificate requirements on the first attempt, I am reapplying for the same degree or certificate. What do I need to do?

  • A: Submit a new graduation application. There is no need to repay the $20 application fee or retake the graduation survey for a repeat attempt at the same degree or certificate within SCF.

Q: When will I receive my diploma?

  • A: Diplomas and certificates will be mailed within eight weeks after graduation. 

Q: How do I order a transcript? 

  • A: If you need your transcript immediately after graduation, please order it here at this time. You will need to mark the transcript as "Hold for Degree," which will move you up in the final review list and your transcript will be sent quickly.

Q: What if I move or need to change my diploma mailing address on my graduation application?

  • A: Change your address on the Personal Information page so we have an up-to-date address for you, and email Graduation@SCF.edu to request an update to your diploma mailing address. If you fail to update this address with SCF and the graduation email prior to the mailing of the diplomas, you will need to pay the nonrefundable $15 duplicate diploma fee. Diplomas are mailed within eight weeks after graduation but may be mailed sooner without notification. Any student who has a financial or disciplinary hold will not be sent the diploma until the hold is cleared.

Graduation Ceremony Attendance Policy

Only students who successfully complete the following, by all posted deadlines, may participate in the graduation ceremony:

  1. Submit the online graduation application 
  2. Pay the $20 graduation fee (reapplications and certificates do not have a fee)
  3. RSVP to the ceremony
  4. Have a student status of degree seeking
  5. Receive an initial approval email from the Office of the Registrar during the first review
  6. Purchase the correct graduation regalia from the SCF Store

Initial approval will be determined in the first round of the review process, and students will be informed that they are initially approved or are missing requirements to graduate via their SCF student email accounts. Students who are missing any requirements will not be permitted to walk in the graduation ceremony.

Students who are missing requirements must register to fulfill the course requirements in the graduation semester and/or correct the issues, and email Graduation@SCF.edu to notify the Office of the Registrar that they are ready to be reviewed and considered for initial approval again.

Students graduating in the spring semester are invited to the spring graduation ceremony. Students graduating in either the summer session or the fall semester are invited to the winter graduation ceremony.

Only students who meet the priority deadline are guaranteed the maximum number of tickets and his/her name in the graduation ceremony program.

An exception is made for dual enrollment students, who will be completing all the required coursework in the graduation term. These students will often not receive final high school transcripts until after the SCF graduation date. Since receipt of a high school transcript is a state requirement for graduation, we will review the application for degree conferral in the next available cycle, but the student can walk in the designated graduation term one semester prior to receiving the degree.
