Fall 2010 Financial Aid Deadline - August 2, 2010 - What happens if you miss the deadline?

The SCF Financial Aid Services Office has been working hard to award financial aid to students who have completed a FAFSA for the
2010-11 academic year. Students were encouraged to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit all required documents well before this date to ensure their financial aid files were complete by August 2, 2010 to allow enough processing time to have aid prepared and in place for the start of the fall 2010 semester.

Did you miss the August 2nd date to submit all required documents to the SCF Financial Aid Services Office (e.g., the College has your FAFSA information forwarded to us by the CPS, we have all required Verification documentation - if you were selected, etc.)?  File your FAFSA now (if you have not already done so).  Even if you  missed the deadline, while you must plan to pay for your College expenses up front by the payment deadline, your financial aid will still be processed in the order the documents were received.  If it is determined you are eligible for financial aid (e.g., grants, loans, federal work-study, etc.) you will be reimbursed at a later date,

You may check the status of your financial aid online by logging into SCFconnect from the College's Web site.

SCF Changing to the Federal Direct Lending Program for 2010-2011

Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year, SCF will be processing Federal Stafford Loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program.  SCF will no longer use the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program to process Stafford and Parent PLUS Loans.  Under the Direct Loan program, your loan funds will come directly from the federal government.  This is a change from the FFEL program, where the loan funds come from a bank or credit union (or other lender that participates in FFELP).  However, the loan amounts and eligibility remain the same under both the DL and FFEL programs.  Click here for more information.

Financial Aid Award Packaging to Occur for 2010-2011

Beginning early July 2010, SCF will begin packaging financial aid awards.  Your award package for the 2010-2011 academic year will be developed according to federal, state and institutional regulations to help meet your financial need.  Award notifications will be generated as each student's financial aid file is complete (i.e., FAFSA information received by the College, verification paperwork processed - if required, etc.).

All initial student financial aid award packages will reflect Federal Direct Stafford Loan eligibility, if any, in an “Offered” status. This means paper loan request forms are no longer necessary for Stafford loans.  Should you desire a Stafford loan you must accept the “Offered” loan(s), in whole or in part, through Banner Self Service in SCFconnect.  It is no longer necessary to submit a paper loan request form. It will, however, be necessary for you to complete other documents such as online entrance counseling and a master promissory note.  Click here for more information..

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy

Federal regulations require that all students receiving Title IV federal financial aid (Pell Grants, FSEOG, ACG, Federal Work-Study and Stafford Loans) demonstrate that they are moving through their academic program at a reasonable rate or are “making progress” toward their degree or certificate. In addition, FSAG (a state/institutional administered program) follows the same requirements.

The most recent SAP policy went into effect for the determination of eligibility for the summer 2010 semester.  This policy will remain in effect until revised or supersded.  To view the SAP policy, please click here . In addition, to view and download the SAP Appeal Form, you may click here.

Please familiarize yourself with the SAP policy in effect and monitor your status each semester through SCFconnect.  SAP is calculated each semester after grades post to the academic transcripts.
