Access to College Services
The college is divided into a variety of departments and offices many of which provide information and services to the community. Examples of college services include information and materials such as catalogues and applications, information on scholarships, loans and grants from the Financial Aid office, information on careers, job search strategies, and interview techniques from the Career Resource Center. Disabled individuals often need materials in alternate format (large print, tapes, Braille, electronic), special equipment/devices (CCTV, Adaptive Computer, Braille,) or auxiliary staff (writer/scribe, interpreter, reader) to effectively access or utilize standard format information or services.
Request for Service Accommodation Disabled Individuals in need of materials in alternate format, auxiliary staff or use of adaptive equipment to fully access the information or services of college offices need to make a specific request for the needed accommodations at least 2 business days in advance of the need.
Procedure/Requirements:
1. Be a qualified disabled individual
2. Submit a specific Request for Access to Services to the Disability Resource Center (DRC).
The request can be submitted by phone, fax, or mail (electronic or conventional). Individuals are encouraged to use the Request for Service Accommodation form as it insures that all the necessary information to process the request is provided.
Minimally alternate format requests should identify the document or publication needed, office distributing the material and the desired format (large print, audio tape, Braille, electronic).
Disabled individuals needing auxiliary staff should identify the specific service (interpreter, reader, scribe) needed and the day, date, time, location and duration of the task or service for which they need the access services, (completing an application, an appointment, etc.).
Adaptive Equipment and Devices (CCTV, Read Machine, Tape Player 2 or 4 Track, Adaptive Computer -voice recognition, speech synthesizer, etc.) are available in the DRC access Laboratory during normal office hours. Individuals in need of assistance in operating adaptive equipment should schedule an appointment.
In all cases, the disabled individual needs to identify his/her impairment or functional limitation and provide contact information (name, address, phone, etc.).
