Faculty Professional Development Team
The SCF Faculty Professional Development Team provides ongoing professional development for its faculty each year through Staff and Program Development funds, a Sabbatical Leave Program, and various In-Service activities.
SPD and grant funding for professional development have been important in providing quality professional development in areas targeted by College strategic planning.
Faculty Professional Development Program activities include Faculty Professional Development Days, workshops and seminars and on-line training. Surveys are administered to the faculty prior to the offering of in-service activities to determine areas of faculty professional development needs.
Professional Development activities focus on moving from a teaching paradigm to a
learning paradigm, incorporating 21st Century Skills into the curriculum, and mastering contemporary pedagogies. Topics
include Digital Literacy, Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATS), Collaborative Learning, Critical
Thinking, Student Learning Styles, Listening Skills, Instructional Technology, and
Active Learning Strategies. The current calendar provides more information.
Faculty Professional Development Guidelines
Both full-time and part-time faculty are encoraged to participate in professional
development. Full-time faculty may use approved professional development as part of
their documentation for yearly step increases and for promotions. Adjunct faculty
may use approved professional development hours for compensation.
