(08-23-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota President Leads Executive Committee of FCSAA
Dr. Carol Probstfeld, president of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has been named the president of the Florida College System Activities Association's (FCSAA) Executive Committee.
The FCSAA is a statewide, non profit corporation regulating, coordinating and promoting intercollegiate activities, including athletics, brain bowl, forensics, music, student government, student publications and theatre. Membership in the FCSAA is open to any of the 28 colleges in the Florida College System. Each member institution is represented in the policy-making.
(08-18-2016) Family Heritage House Museum at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Unveil Rare Doll Collection
The complete collection, which will be unveiled at the museum on Sept. 10, includes more than 140 dolls in pristine condition.
The family of a woman who grew up in Palmetto has donated her collection of Daddy's Long Legs dolls to the Family Heritage House Museum at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF).
(08-18-2016) National Expert to Offer College Math Tips to SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Students
The seminar is geared toward students taking college math for the first time and to those teaching new math students.
Nolting offers seminars to colleges and universities around the country to improve tutoring, course success, retention and graduation, and has consulted on more than 150 campuses. He is the author of several textbooks and has developed DVDs and web programs on study skills, test anxiety, tutor training and disabilities.
(08-17-2016) SCF Venice Welcomes Students With Renovated Library and Student Union
When students return to the Venice campus of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) on Aug. 22 they will be welcomed with a renovated library and student union.
Over the summer, facilities staff at SCF Venice were busy improving the campus for new and returning students. The library has been expanded and received a major facelift. The College added a library instruction room, a work area and new student study areas. The Venice library also has a new central point of services and offices for staff.
(08-11-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Fine Art Gallery to Participate in Museum Assessment Program
The American Alliance of Museums has accepted the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Fine Art Gallery in the Museum Assessment Program to undertake a Collections Stewardship Assessment during the 2016-17 academic year.
The Museum Assessment Program (MAP) is provided on behalf of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and Institute of Museum and Library Services. Since its inception in 1981, MAP has helped more than 4,600 small and mid-sized museums strengthen operations, plan for the future and meet standards.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will offer a certified paralegal exam review course to prepare students for the NALA Certified Paralegal/Legal Assistant exam.
The online course is designed to bring students up to date on all of the latest requirements for the paralegal exam.

As Aug. 13, also known as National Left Handers Day, approaches, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is cheering on a few of its favorite southpaws.
SCF wanted to join the at least 10 percent of people celebrating the day (just one in 10 people are left-handed) by recognizing a seven of our southpaws.
(08-09-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Celebrates Summer Bridge Program Success
The program gives students in the College Reach Out Program (Crop) a jump start on their college education by allowing them to take two required classes over the summer and a seminar that helps them prepare for the Fall semester.
The Summer Bridge Program is led by SCF Special Programs Director Kristen L. Anderson and Jessica Torsell, SCF Special Programs retention specialist. Students received college scholarships covering tuition, books, school supplies and lunches, and completed up to six college credits by taking courses including Student Life Skills, Psychology and Reading.

The librarians at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) know how to support and cultivate book lovers. Just ask Helene Little, an SCF student, who spends a lot of time in the library.
Aug. 9 is National Book Lovers Day and book lovers at SCF have easy access to publications through the College's "Overdrive" app that allows them to check out ebooks and audiobooks on their phones or tablets. In addition, the "Flipster" app gives students, faculty and staff access to many digital magazines.
(08-04-2016) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Helps Purple Heart Recipient Gets Head Start on Education
Sgt. Corey Carter, a Bayshore High School graduate who enlisted in the U.S. Marines, decided last year to get a head start on his education with SCF's online classes.
Carter, who was awarded the Purple Heart after he was in an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan in 2011, heard Florida had recently adopted tuition waivers for Florida recipients of the Purple Heart, so he reached out to State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, for help. He was assigned to Delane Solana, a Veterans Benefits advisor in Veteran Services at SCF, who helped him get the award and sign up for classes online while he was still stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
