(09-25-2017) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Offer Podcast Training at SCF Lakewood Ranch
SCF will offer a podcast training course from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.
"Get Your Podcast On" will provide information about how to create a podcast, including help with design choices, organizing the project, learning how to edit quickly and easily, distribution channels, and avoiding the various complications that can impede progress. The fee for the course is $69. To register, call 941-752-5203 by noon on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
(09-22-2017) CROP Program at SCF Brings Home Business & Education Partnership Award
The College Reach-Out Program (CROP) at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) won the "Good Things Come in Big Packages, Too" Business & Education Partnership Award on Friday for its work with middle and high school students. This was the 27th year the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and the School District of Manatee County has recognized businesses, organizations and individuals who have made a commitment to enhance education in Manatee County.
"This award recognizes the dedicated educators who work with the College Reach-Out Program to ensure all students in our community have opportunities for higher education," said Kristen L. Anderson, program director of special programs at SCF. "It is with them in mind, that I accept this award."
(09-21-2017) CROP Program at SCF Nominated for Business and Education Partnership Award
The College Reach-Out Program (CROP) at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has been nominated for a Business and Education Partnership Award. For the past 26 years the Manatee Chamber of Commerce has recognized businesses, organizations and individuals who have made a commitment to enhance education in Manatee County. The winners will be announced Friday, Sept. 22.
CROP is designed to help motivate students to pursue a college education, develop their basic learning skills, strengthen students' and parents' understanding of the benefits of postsecondary education and foster academic, personal, and career development. SCF works with middle and high schools in Manatee and Sarasota counties to identify students for the program and to work with them through their transition to college.
(09-21-2017) Discover a Potential Career in Early Childhood at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will offer an online information session on a career in Early Childhood Education from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 23. The session, which will show the pathway to an Early Childhood Education degree, will be offered via Skype.

(09-21-2017) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Host Information Sessions on Educator Preparation Institute
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host information sessions about its Educator Preparation Institute (EPI). The program is for anyone with at least a bachelor's degree in a noneducation major or teachers with temporary certificates who need professional certification to teach.
The College is offering free one-hour information sessions. A virtual information session will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 21 via Skype for Business. Two sessions will be offered in Lakewood Ranch at 6 p.m. Thursday Oct. 12 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E., Center for Innovation and Technology, Room 214. Two information sessions will be offered in Venice at 6 p.m. Monday Oct. 23; and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 800, Room 838.
(09-21-2017) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Offers Manufacturing Essentials Course
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is offering a 10-week online Manufacturing Essentials course including five modules. Online classes are 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 3. The cost of registration, books and testing is $899 a person.
Four tests are administered at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E. throughout the course. Successful students can earn a Certified Production Technician certification from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council.
(09-19-2017) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Hosts Information Sessions on Gator Engineering Program
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host information sessions for students interested in the University of Florida Gator Engineering at SCF program. Applications are due by Nov. 1 for the Fall 2018 semester. Students should apply directly to the University of Florida.
Information sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Center for Innovation Technology, Selby Room at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E; and at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and Oct. 26 in Building 800, Selby Room, at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.
(09-19-2017) Community Foundation of Sarasota Awards Grant for SCF Nursing School Equipment
The Arthur T. Esslinger Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota has donated $2,284 in an immediate impact grant to allow the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) to purchase Otoscopes/Ophthalmoscope Diagnostic Kits that will allow nursing students to master skills of patient physical assessments for Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) and eye ailments.
These diagnostic kits are critical tools. They enable nurses to perform efficient exams and accurate assessments for a full range of patient conditions from runny noses and sore throats to diabetes and hypertension. BSN nursing students will actively practice ENT and eye assessments using these kits in real-life teaching scenarios. The kits also will help BSN nursing students gain skills in using clinical reasoning.
(09-19-2017) SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Offer Personal Trainer Certification Course
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will offer a personal trainer certification course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, Oct. 1 through Nov. 12 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.
The fee for the course and certification exams, offered in partnership with World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.), is $749, not including the required textbook. Participants can expect hands-on practical labs and access to a national pool of employment opportunities upon completion. Program internships also are available.
(09-19-2017) SCF Nursing Program Receives Donation to Purchase IV Infusion Pumps
The Lakewood Ranch Community Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $2,579 to State College of Florida Foundation to allow State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) to purchase four IV infusion pumps for the Medical Technology and Simulation Center at SCF Lakewood Ranch.
The new IV pumps will allow the nursing program to offer additional student practice. Infusion pumps offer significant advantages over manual administration of fluids, including the ability to deliver fluids in very small volumes and at precisely programmed rates or automated intervals. They can deliver nutrients or medications, such as insulin or other hormones, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs and pain relievers.
