SCF Philosophy Club to Host Native American Performer
(Bradenton, Fla., October 28, 2009) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Philosophy Club will host Ed Winddancer, a Native American performer, 2 - 3:20 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, building 800. Held to raise awareness about the Native American philosophy of life, the event is free and open to the public.
A nationally known performer, Winddancer is dedicated to educating people about his Nanticoke heritage through dance and songs performed on his flute. Winddancer has performed for audiences throughout the United States and Europe.
At the event, Winddancer also will discuss Native American traditions and religious freedom rights. In 2005, he was arrested for exchanging feathers used for religious purposes, spawning an American Indian religious freedom battle with the U.S. government.
