SCF to Host Master Class by Baritone Vocalist

(Bradenton, Fla., October 26, 2009) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a voice master class by Dr. Lloyd Mims, a baritone vocalist, 1 - 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, building 11 West. The class is free and open to the public.

Mims is dean of the School of Music and Fine Arts at Palm Beach Atlantic University and music director of Palm Beach Atlantic Symphony, a college-community orchestra. 

Mims has performed with the Kentucky Opera, Mobile Opera, Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Chorus, Louisville Bach Society, Ballet Florida, Masterworks Chorus and Asunción Symphony in Paraguay.

He earned a doctorate in musical arts from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and studied at the Juilliard School in New York and the America-Italy Society. He also was a fellow with the Bach Aria Festival in Stony Brook, N.Y., in 1991. 

A member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Conductors Guild, and the National Opera Association, he also serves on the executive board of directors and as treasurer for the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
