SCF to Commemorate Disability Awareness Month
(Bradenton, Fla., October 13, 2009) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Disability Resource Center (DRC) and the Mulitcultural Awareness Committee will host activities throughout October to commemorate Disability Awareness Month at SCF Bradenton, 5480 26th Street West.
Activities, presentations, workshops and Web-based videos will be available to students, faculty and the public throughout the month of October to promote understanding and awareness of individuals with disabilities and provide education about disability history and the disability rights movement. Topics will cover etiquette toward disabled, accessible technology for the disabled, and learning disabilities in a college environment.
Sponsored by the SCF Bradenton Student Government Association, "Awareness on the Quad," held 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, at SCF Bradenton, will feature food, music, interactive events and competitions for the college community to provide insight into disability issues.
In November, the DRC will hold a workshop for exceptional students from Manatee and Sarasota counties interested in pursuing a college education. Students will learn about college admissions, financial aid and services provided by the DRC. Following the workshop, students will have the opportunity to attend Fall Frolic, held Nov. 4, at SCF Bradenton, for a taste of campus life.
