MCC Winter Commencement Held Dec. 12

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 11, 2008) - Manatee Community College (MCC) Winter 2008 commencement exercises were held at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, in the Manatee Convention Center, Palmetto. Out of a total of 764 students eligible for graduation, approximately 183 participated in the ceremony. 

It was the first MCC commencement exercise presided over by MCC President Dr. Lars A. Hafner since he assumed the position of president in July.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Arthur Guilford, vice president and campus executive officer, University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee.

Other program participants included Steve Harner, chair, MCC district board of trustees; Dr. Mike Mears, interim vice president of academic affairs; Theresia Elrod, assistant professor, natural science; Joni Pirnot, associate professor, mathematics; Donald Hall, professor, natural science, mace bearer; MCC Bradenton Student Government Association (SGA) President Robyn Draper; MCC Venice SGA President Kathleen Emmons; and Rev. Dr. James Williamson, chaplain, Campus Ministries.

The processional and recessional music was provided by the MCC Jazz Ensemble and the National Anthem was sung by the MCC Chamber Choir.
