Celebrate the Holidays with Music at MCC
(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 14, 2008) - The Fine and Performing Arts Department of Manatee Community College (MCC) will feature the MCC Concert Choir and MCC Orchestra performing two works of the holiday season on Tues., Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. at the Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th St. and 60th Ave. W.
"The Seven Joys of Christmas"by Kirke Mechem, a composer of more than 250 published works, uses carols from cultures around the world to express a vibrant celebration of the season. In the final arrangement, several carols are woven together to provide a compelling musical effect. This choral work is accompanied by piano and orchestra.
A suite of four songs celebrates Chanukah in "Aspects of a Great Miracle" by Michael Isaacson, founding artistic director of The Israel Pops Orchestra and the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music. It is performed by choir, brass and percussion.
Melodie Dickerson directs the choir and Dr. Daniel Steiger directs the orchestra for these two 20th century musical works.
