MCC Students Excel in Press Association Competition

The Manatee Community College (MCC) Pentangle humanities magazine won second place for general excellence and several students won awards in the 49th annual Florida Community College Press Association Division conference held in Bradenton in October. Three students from the Veritas student newspaper won awards.

Pentangle contributors who won awards included Tracie Keller, second place, fiction; Kevin Cox, second place, creative nonfiction; Mike Caudill, second place, illustration with text; Caudill and Erin Morris, second place, illustrations with text; and Michelle Anderson, third place, poem. Pentangle staff won second-place awards for cover, contents page and staff page. Staff members included Jodi Hunt, Kate McHugh, Robert Johnson, Stefanie Gurgold and Traci Taskey. Faculty advisers were Courtney Ruffner and Jeff Grieneisen and the art consultant was Joe Loccisano. The magazine is published annually in the spring. 

Veritas winners included Heather Miller, first place, editorial cartoon, and Beverly Comstock, second-place awards for picture story and sports writing. Ed Ericsson served as faculty adviser.
