TROPICAL STORM FAY UPDATE: CLASSES HELD AS SCHEDULED MON AUG 18
(Bradenton, Fla., August 18, 2008) - Time of this update: 9:30 a.m. Aug. 18 -- Fall term classes began as scheduled Aug. 18 after MCC officials during the weekend assessed Tropical Storm Fay advisories indicating that the storm would not threaten the MCC service district Monday.
MCC's Critical Incident Management Team has activated and officials are in close communication with emergency operations agencies. The National Weather Service advisories indicate that our local area will experience the effects of the storm on Tuesday, Aug. 19, if the storm comes ashore in our area. Due to the storm's unpredictability, MCC officials are continuing to monitor the situation and assess the potential for our service district. The next update will be posted on this Web site around 2 p.m. today.
In the event that classes are canceled, all MCC students, faculty and staff will receive a phone call and e-mail sent from the College's emergency communications system. Messages also can be sent simultaneously to cell phones, via text messaging and to personal e-mail accounts--IF students, faculty and staff have provided their contact information in a secure data base used only by MCC for emergency notifications.
Returning and new students especially are encouraged to take this opportunity to provide complete and updated contact information. Easy-to-follow instructions can be found at this link: www.scf.edu/content/PDF/Publications/Directions_For_Updating_Phone_Numbers.pdf
