Learn How to Prepare a Business for Disasters
(Bradenton, Fla., June 20, 2008) - How to prepare for hurricanes will be one topic covered in a free "Disaster Preparedness for Your Business" workshop from 8 to 10 a.m., Friday, June 27, in the Selby Room, Building 800, Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. The workshop is offered by MCC's Small Business Development Center, and Venice Area and North Port chambers of commerce.
Guest speaker Richard Berman, emergency management coordinator for the North Port Fire Rescue Department, is a Certified Emergency Manager with 20 years of experience with federal, state and local public safety agencies. With the North Port Fire Rescue District since 2007, he was previously operations chief for Sarasota County Emergency Management.
One week after Hurricane Charley struck Punta Gorda, Berman led a mutual aid deployment team of 24 emergency managers and state fire marshals to manage the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center. He also worked on response and recovery operations for more than a dozen disasters, including hurricanes Dennis, Floyd and Isabel, in North Carolina.
