MCC President To Be Grand Marshall in DeSoto Parade
(Bradenton, Fla., April 24, 2008) - Manatee Community College (MCC) President Dr. Sarah H. Pappas, who will retire June 30, will be the Grand Marshall in the Grand Parade, the final event of the 2008 DeSoto Heritage Festival, on Saturday, April 26. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. at Manatee High School and will feature floats, marching bands and more on a two-mile route through downtown Bradenton. Dr. Pappas will ride in a convertible that will bear a sign stating that she is president of MCC.
Pappas' retirement will cap 11 years of overseeing dramatic growth in enrollment and college facilities at MCC and 40 years in the Florida higher education system. An active community servant, she has served on numerous state and local boards. Currently, she is chair of the Sarasota Economic Development Corporation.
Honors include induction into the prestigious Community Video Archives Hall of Fame, and being named among the 100 Most Powerful People Today by Sarasota Magazine. She won a President's Award for Professional Excellence from the Florida Association of Community Colleges.
