MCC Offers Free Summer CSI Program

(Bradenton, Fla., March 24, 2008). - Manatee Community College (MCC) will offer a free crime scene investigation program this summer for gifted and/or high-achieving high school students. MCC received a Governor's Summer Program grant for the program for the fourth year in a row. It will be extended from three to four weeks this year.

As many as 24 qualifying students from Manatee and Sarasota counties' high schools may participate. An instructor with real-life experience in crime scene investigation will lead the criminal justice portion of the program. Natural science and mathematics skills will be honed as students collect evidence, sketch the crime scene, and use state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques and special software for analysis and comparison of DNA results. Students will present an analysis of evidence and closing arguments to a state prosecuting attorney, who will assess their use of organization, critical thinking, and evaluation and presentation skills.

The program presents unique challenges for gifted and high-achieving students and promotes their academic and personal growth.
