MCC President Candidates at MCC 3/24-4/8

(Bradenton, Fla., March 7, 2008) - The public is invited to meet finalists seeking to become Manatee Community College's (MCC) fifth president and succeed President Dr. Sarah H. Pappas, who is retiring June 30.

Open meetings with each of the five candidates will be held from March 24 through April 8 at MCC locations in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and Venice. The public, college employees and students are encouraged to attend. At the conclusion of each meeting, attendees will be invited to provide written comments that will be shared with MCC trustees.

Steve Harner, chair of the MCC district board of trustees, said, "The board recognizes the importance of MCC to our area, and selecting the next president of our great college is our most important responsibility."

"We saw an outpouring of community affection for MCC during last year's 50th anniversary celebration," Harner said. I hope MCC supporters, especially alumni, will come out to meet the candidates and give us feedback," said Harner.

Harner said that informal meetings allow both candidate and community members to make the right impression and get a sense for whether they would be a good match.

"We have a distinguished slate of candidates, and we know they will receive a warm welcome from our college community and the public," Harner said.
