Concert Features MCC Sopranos & High School Honor Choir(Bradenton, Fla., Feb.14, 2008) - The Manatee Community College (MCC) Choirs Winter Concert will feature MCC student sopranos and an inaugural performance by a newly formed High School Honor Choir of MCC directed by Melodie Dickerson, MCC music program manager. The concert will be held Tuesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. in Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th Street at 60th Avenue West, Bradenton.
The featured sopranos, MCC students Jaimie Diane Proctor and Christal Cashmore, competed in the recent Florida Community College Activities Association Winter Music Symposium where Proctor won an honorable mention.
General admission for the MCC Choirs Winter Concert on March 4 is $8. Tickets are $4 for Florida students and MCC staff.
The new High School Honor Choir of MCC is comprised of area students who were nominated by their high schools' choir directors. Participating schools include Bayshore, Braden River, Lakewood Ranch, North Port, Palmetto, Saint Stephen's, Sarasota Christian, Southeast and several home-school programs.
In addition to performing in the MCC Winter Concert, the High School Honor Choir will participate in Choral/Vocal Arts Day at MCC Saturday, March 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The choir will rehearse under the direction of Dickerson in the morning, and in the afternoon choir members will attend a voice master class led by Dickerson with professional opera singer and MCC adjunct Carol Sparrow, and pianist and MCC Choirs accompanist Lurray Myers.
