ArtCenter Classes Offered at Lakewood Ranch

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 18, 2008) - In collaboration with ArtCenter Manatee, Manatee Community College (MCC) Corporate and Community Development offers a variety of classes taught by the area's finest artists and teachers at MCC Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway East. The Spring schedule includes classes in watercolor painting, making stained glass, landscape art and painting on silk.

Kathleen Masur teaches "Exploring Painting on Silk," which offers an opportunity to make gifts or something for one's own wardrobe. Each class begins with a demonstration that is followed by individual instruction. The class is open to all skill levels and meets from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays. New six-week classes begin March 26.

"Painting on silk is one of the oldest art forms, dating back 5,000 years. With modern technology, the dyes are nontoxic and easy to use and anyone can do it. You can take a piece of silk, add color, throw in a little salt for texturing and come up with a beautiful design," said Masur.

"Stained Glass" and "Landscape - All Media" classes begin March 29. The fee for each class is $70 for ArtCenter members and $90 for nonmembers. For more information, visit or call the ArtCenter at (941) 746-2862 or MCC Lakewood Ranch at (941) 363-7000.
