Winners of Pentangle Magazine Competition Announced
(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 13, 2007) - Winners of the Manatee Community College (MCC) 2007/08 Pentangle magazine art competition have been announced. Their works are eligible to appear in the award-winning humanities magazine, which will be published in the spring. Awards include a $125 Best in Show and three Judge's Choice awards of $25 each.
Troy Pierce, a Sarasota resident, won the Best-in-Show award for his figurative etching series. Judge's Choice winners are Mary Young, Sarasota, for her installation with painted manikin and hand-painted books; Lucille Blankenship, Palmetto, for a figurative monotype series; and Christine Lupo, Sarasota, for a black-and-white photo of a street lantern.
Artist, mathematician and activist John Sims judged the art competition, which drew 200 submissions. Sims is known internationally for his work in mathematical art, ethno-mathematics and visual mathematics. Through his art, Sims illustrates abstract concepts of numbers and how numbers and formulas look.
Submitted works may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the west wing first floor of the new Art and Design Building, number 10, at MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West. The exhibit continues through Jan. 17. For more information, call (941) 752-5225.
