MCC Honor Society Chapter Wins State Awards

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 30, 2007) - For the fourth consecutive year, the Manatee Community College (MCC) Bradenton chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society has won a Distinguished Chapter Award, ranking number six out of 75 chapters in the Florida region. The MCC Nu Zeta chapter also won Leadership and Service Hallmark awards and the chapter president and faculty advisor won number one rankings in the state.

Awards were presented at the Annual Florida Phi Theta Kappa Regional Convention held Nov. 9 through 11 in St. Petersburg. Each of the Hallmark awards recognized Nu Zeta as being one of the top three programs in the state.

Nu Zeta President Sean Abene was named number one officer in the Florida region and faculty advisor Dr. Joni Pirnot was named Paragon Advisor for the Florida Region. The MCC chapter is an International Five Star Chapter, which is the highest recognition bestowed on chapter programs by Phi Theta Kappa.

Student officers who attended the convention included Abene, Wesley Pitts, Jami Worley, Whitney Lavoie, Kaje Housman and Christine Heng.
