Math Clubs Win Prizes in Statewide Competition

(Bradenton, Fla., April 26, 2007) - For the fourth year in a row, the Manatee Community College (MCC) Venice Math Olympics team won first place in the small college division in statewide competition held April 21 at the University of North Florida (UNF), Jacksonville. Kevin Clifford, a member of the MCC Bradenton Math Olympics team, won third place in individual rankings. The day-long competition is co-sponsored by UNF and the Florida Two-Year College Mathematics Association.

Members of the award-winning MCC Venice team are Giovanni Alemanno, Andrew Conn, Veronica Deza and Grensy Quintero. In addition to Clifford, members of the MCC Bradenton team are Jamie Bernhard, Victor Chacon, Martha Fuentes, Houng Marks, Ryan Newbloom, James Rashkin and David Rohrer.

The MCC Venice team coach is Mary Beth Headlee and the MCC Bradenton team coach is Altay Ozgener.
