Spring Commencement Exercises to be Held May 4
(Bradenton, Fla., April 25, 2007) - Manatee Community College (MCC) Spring 2007 commencement exercises will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 4, at the Manatee Convention Center, One Haben Blvd., Palmetto. Out of a total of 579 graduating students, 255 will participate in the ceremony.
In celebration of MCC's 50th anniversary, a highlight of the ceremony will be readings of award-winning essays about the college's impact on the lives of students. Essays will be read by MCC student Katherine Bernal and MCC alumni Helen Tomlinson, Jeremy Doerrfeld and Starloe Galletta. Sarasota resident and MCC donor Graci McGillicuddy will make remarks about the 50th anniversary essay contest she and husband Dennis co-sponsored.
The student speaker is graduating sophomore Jessica Mead, who was president of the MCC Bradenton chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. A single mother, she will pursue a career and degree in public relations and communications.
Other program participants are MCC President Dr. Sarah Pappas, who will offer opening remarks and confer degrees; Rip duPont III, chair, District Board of Trustees; Dr. John Rosen, vice president, academic affairs; faculty members Stephanie Cook and Dr. Joni Pirnot; Peg Lowery, executive director, The Foundation for MCC Inc., mace bearer; MCC Venice Student Government Association (SGA) President Paul Gaerlan; MCC Bradenton SGA President Jahaira Tlaseca; Rev. Don Nicholson, chaplain, Campus Ministries; and graduating music student Margaret Jewell.
Tickets are required for the ceremony and are available through graduating students.
