Winners of Pentangle Contests Announced

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 21, 2007) - Winners of Manatee Community College (MCC) Pentangle magazine poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction contests have been announced. Their works are eligible for inclusion in the award-winning magazine. First-, second- and third-place winners win cash awards of $75, $50 and $25 respectively. All winners receive certificates.

In the poetry category, winners are Kimberly Schanz, first place; Tyeisha Hilton, second place; Rae Crider, third place. Students receiving honorable mentions in the poetry category include Stacey Moss, Jessica Arrant, Morgan Zablauskas, Elizabeth Dalhover, Sara Heristchi, Kia McDuffie, Rebecca Way and Kimberly Schanz. Judith Kerman, judged the competition. A poet, publisher and editor, she established Mayapple Press in 1978.

Winners in the fiction category are Scott Nguyen, first place; Ginny Bacon, second place; and William Glennon, third place. The competition was judged by Paul Dean, who teaches at Pine View High School, Sarasota. In the creative nonfiction category, winners are Jessica Arrant, first place, Jamie Minton, second place; Joni Deckert, third place; and Benjamin Meyer and Benjamin Dictor, honorable mentions. Jeff Grieneisen, an MCC instructor, judged the competition. He is co-editor of Florida English and has a book of poetry to be published by Mammoth Books in 2008.

Pentangle advisors are Suzanne Keyworth and Courtney Ruffner. Joe Loccisano is art consultant. The magazine is published each spring.
