Business Clubs Excel in District Competition

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 31, 2007) - Members of Manatee Community College (MCC) Bradenton and Venice Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) business clubs earned 22 awards, including seven first-place awards, in District IV Spring Leadership Conference competition hosted by MCC Venice on Saturday, Jan. 27.

MCC Bradenton team members Shanice Cofer and Cathy Brown each won five awards. Cheryl Ouellette won three awards and Twynette Poole won third place in computer applications. Cofer won first-place awards in accounting for professionals and accounting analysis and decision-making; second-place awards in accounting principles and computer applications; and a third-place award in economic concepts. Brown won a first-place in hospitality management; second-place awards in management concepts, marketing concepts and sports management; and a third-place award in business law. Ouelette won first-place awards in accounting principles, economic concepts and financial concepts.

Mickie Abel of the MCC Venice team won five awards, including first place, job interview; second place, future business executive; third place, human resources management; and fourth place, business communication and impromptu speaking. Other MCC Venice awards winners are Mike Dean, second place, marketing analysis and decision-making, and fourth place, international business; and Grensy Quintero, fourth place, accounting principles.

Instructor Amy Santos is the PBL Bradenton club's adviser. Professor Dr. Louis Okonkwo is district adviser and Professor Dr. Gary Greene is the MCC Venice adviser.
