MCC Participates in College Goal Sunday
(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 23, 2007) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will help local students get federal cash assistance to attend college, whether at MCC or another college, from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, in room 247, Student Services Center, building 1, MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West. MCC is one of 22 community colleges participating in Florida College Goal Sunday, an event designed to raise awareness about the availability of billions of available federal dollars.
"Many low-income and first-generation students fall through the cracks in the financial aid process because they're intimidated by complicated forms," said Anders Nilsen, MCC's director of financial aid. "College Goal Sunday helps break the barriers and focuses attention on a service that MCC offers every day."
Nilsen serves on the state advisory board for Florida College Goal Sunday, during which financial counselors assist college-bound students and their families in completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A $500 scholarship drawing, which applies to anywhere a student chooses to pursue a higher education, will be held for students who attend the MCC event.
