First-Ever 5K Race, Fun Run & Walk

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 15, 2006) - The Manatee Community College (MCC) Athletics Program will sponsor its first-ever 5K Race, Run & Walk that begins at 8 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Hal Chasey Gymnasium at MCC Bradenton, located off 60^th Avenue West between 26^th Street West and 34^th Street West. A Mile Fun Run begins at 8:15 a.m. and walkers may participate as well. Both races end at the Hal Chasey Gymnasium. Awards will be presented to the top three winners in all typical/standard age categories.

Fees for the races are $15 if paid before Jan. 20 and $20 on the day of the races. Monies raised will be used for scholarships going to student athletes impacted by Hurricane Katrina's destruction in New Orleans and to the MCC Single Parent Scholarship Program.

Some sponsors of MCC's 5K Race include the Bradenton Runners Club, Coastal Orthopedics, Sweetbay Supermarket, Crispers, All-Aboard Charters Transportation and New Balance.
