MCC & Manatee High School Orchestras to Perform
(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 7, 2006) - A concert by the Manatee Community College (MCC) Orchestra will include a guest appearance by the Manatee High School (MHS) Sinfonia at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th Street West at 60th Avenue.
The MCC Orchestra, directed by Sasha von Dassow, will perform Three Lyric Pieces for bass and string orchestra by local composer Paul Ramsier. The third movement, Habanera, was written for featured bassist and MCC instructor John Miller. Other selections include pieces from George Frideric Handel's Fireworks, Igor Stravinsky's Infernal Dance, Berceuse and Finale from the Firebird Ballet, Johannes Brahms' Second Symphony and Gabriel Faure's Pavane.
The MHS Sinfonia will perform selections by William Steinohrt, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Doan and Andrew Fletcher. Directed by Sherry Lowe, a graduate of MHS and MCC, Sinfonia performs four times a year locally and consistently receives superior ratings in district and state festival competition.
