Final Perfomrances: Children of the Day
(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 6, 2006) - The final performances of the light-hearted musical, Children of the Day, will be performed at 8 p.m., Oct. 6 and 7, in Neel Performing Arts Center, located off 26th Street at 60th Avenue West, Manatee Community College (MCC) Bradenton. The theatre production is the first in a series of events planned for this fall through 2007 to celebrate the College's 50th anniversary. It was performed by an MCC cast for the first time 20 years ago.
MCC theatre students will take Baby Boomers and their families back to the '60s in the musical by Lee Ahlin, from the Tampa Bay area, and Philip Hall, Longboat Key. Director Ken Erickson calls it a "memory play" about a transfer student's misadventures on his first day as a fifth-grader at Wingfield Elementary School. He faces comical traumas that include a bully, two Beatles fans and a lunch-time surprise - all set to a playful mix of music that includes everything from pop to soul and gospel.
MCC adjunct Robert Lischetti is vocal director. Award-winning music student Devin Neel is the musical director. Kelly Burnette, who teaches at the Manatee County School for the Arts, is the choreographer. Leading the cast are Tim Baker, Ryan Dowd Urch, Jennifer Woll and Molly Healy. Other cast members are Andrew Bakker, Kira Borrowdale, Colin Brady, Kelly Clark, Nathan James, Maggie Jewell, Aaron Koch, Cassie Magnuson, Nicole Solie and Jennifer Warber.
General admission is $10 for reserved seats. Tickets are $5 for Florida students and MCC staff. For more information, call (941) 752-5252.
