Info Session About Teacher Certification Prep Program

 (Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 8,  2006) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will host an information session at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, about its teaching certification preparation program for noneducation majors with at least a bachelor's degree. The session will be held in the Professional Development Center, building 800, MCC Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail.

Evening and weekend scheduling of classes allows working professionals to participate. After finishing all courses in the program and passing required state and college exams, participants will receive certificates of completion that make them eligible to apply for the FDOE teaching certificate. The cost of MCC's alternative certification program (ACP) is approximately $2,000.

MCC was one of the first colleges to develop an ACP when the programs were authorized by the Florida Legislature in an attempt to address the state's critical teacher shortage. The first cohort of 23 students graduated in May.
