MCC Introduces Conducting & Jazz Combo Classes
(Bradenton, Fla., June 12, 2006) - Manatee Community College (MCC) will introduce for-credit Basic Conducting and Jazz Combo classes at MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, in Fall term 2006, which begins Aug. 21 and ends Dec. 8.
Instructor Dave Jacobs, conductor of the MCC Wind Ensemble and formerly the associate director of bands at Manatee High School, will teach the conducting class. A trumpet player, he performs with the Florida West Coast Symphony Orchestra and Sarasota Opera. Class topics are baton techniques, score analysis and practical applications with live and recorded music. The class meets 2 to 2:53 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Marc Mannino, manager of the MCC Music Program and conductor of its Jazz Ensemble, will cover standard jazz repertoire, harmony and improvisation skills in the Jazz Combo class from 9:30 to 10:53 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. A graduate of Florida State University School of Music, Mannino has degrees in music performance and education. He is a veteran of United States Air Force bands and has performed throughout the United States and Canada.
