MCC Sophomores Named to Academic Excellence Teams
(Bradenton, Fla., May 8, 2005) - Four Manatee Community College (MCC) graduating sophomores were recently named to the 2006 All-Florida Academic Team. They are Adam Warcewicz (first team) and Tran Bui, Jessica Karacia and Peggy O'Connor (second team).
Warcewicz, a Sarasota resident, and Karacia, Bradenton, attended classes at MCC Bradenton. Bui, Port Charlotte, and O'Connor, Venice, attended classes at MCC Venice. Warcewicz also was chosen to be the student speaker at May 5 MCC commencement exercises. MCC Phi Theta Kappa honorary society advisors are assistant professors Stephanie Cook (MCC Venice team) and Joni Pirnot.
All-Florida Academic Team winners received Phi Theta Kappa medallions and certificates and were recognized at a reception and awards ceremony in Tallahassee in April. A total of 112 students were recognized. Thirty of those were named to the first team.
"These students represent some of the best and brightest students in Florida. Their individual stories about their academic aspirations and what it has taken to achieve them are a testament to their commitment to improving their knowledge and life opportunities through education," said Florida Community Colleges and Workforce Education Chancellor J. David Armstrong Jr.
