MCC Venice Celebrates First International Art Exchange
(Venice, Fla., April 12, 2006) - Manatee Community College (MCC) and Sarasota Sister Cities will celebrate the opening of the first international art exchange to be located at MCC Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, with a high tea and art show in the Academic Resource Center, building 400, from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 25. The opening of the permanent display of graphics and fine art by students from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The 2006 exhibit is the result of an Internet and digital exchange of artworks by MCC and the Canadian students, accomplished with technical help and expertise of art directors and faculty at both schools. This is the fourth international artwork exchange sponsored by MCC and Sarasota Sister Cities. Others were with L'Ecole Superieure d'Art de Perpignan, France; Lauder College of Dunfermline, Scotland; and Vladimir State Pedagogical University, Russia. Participating MCC faculty include Joseph Loccisano, Sue Wyar, Sherri Hill, Drew Webster and Dan Christensen. The exhibit at MCC Venice will include 15 images from the Canadian students and five images from last year's Sister Cities exchange with French students.
Space is limited. Anyone planning to attend the high tea must RSVP by April 21 to Lynda Platone at (941) 408-1404.
The exhibit may be viewed during the Academic Resource Center's regular hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fridays. For more information about the exhibit, call (941) 408-1404.
