MCC Department Chair Receives Teaching Excellence Award
(Bradenton, Fla., March 16, 2006) -- Dr. Dennis Runde, chair of the Manatee Community College (MCC) mathematics department, received the 2006 Outstanding Teaching award from the Florida Two Year College Mathematics Association (FTYCMA).
The Florida Two Year College Mathematics Association is committed to encouraging the development of effective mathematics programs. Runde received his award at a joint conference of FTYCMA and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) held Feb. 17 through 18 at Florida Atlantic University, Jupiter.
A department chair for six of his 15 years at MCC, Runde is co-author of A Survey of Mathematics With Applications and is currently working on the fourth edition of the textbook for liberal arts mathematics courses. He also is a recipient of a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) award for excellence and has earned recognition from St. Stephens Episcopal School and MCC. He is a frequent presenter at conferences for FTYCMA, MAA, Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Chair Academy.
Runde has a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in mathematics education from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
